As we step into 2025, I want to take a moment to reflect on the year that has passed and to express my deepest gratitude to you, our generous community of supporters. This past year presented unexpected challenges, and the Canada Post strike added a unique hurdle during our most critical time of the year. For many organizations, this might have been a setback. But for us at Father Lacombe, it became yet another testament to the strength, dedication, and heart of this incredible community we are blessed to be a part of.
In preparation for the holiday season, our remarkable volunteers came together to stuff envelopes for our Christmas Newsletter. This newsletter was meant to share stories of hope and resilience—stories like that of one of our inspiring residents living with Parkinson’s. Despite his challenges, he is currently writing a book titled Shaken Not Stirred, capturing his journey through life with courage, humor, and a determination to turn the page to a new chapter.
When the strike hit, we were faced with a difficult choice: delay our appeal or try something new. In that moment, we knew we could rely on you—and so we sent out an urgent email asking for your support. What followed was nothing short of extraordinary.
You responded with such kindness and dedication. Many of you made the effort to come in person to drop off cheques, others gave online, and some of you picked up the phone to call in your contributions. Your generosity poured in at a time when we needed it most, reminding us that this community is not just generous but deeply committed to ensuring the well-being of the seniors who call Father Lacombe home.
Your support enables us to do so much more than simply meet basic needs. Because of you, we can provide vital equipment that enhances safety and quality of life for our residents. Your gifts fund recreational programs that bring joy, laughter, and a renewed sense of purpose to seniors who may otherwise feel isolated. They allow us to invest in critical building improvements, ensuring that our spaces are not only functional but also warm, welcoming, and dignified.
Most people believe that government funding and accommodation fees cover all the needs of our seniors. Unfortunately, this is not the case. While we are grateful for our government partners, the reality is that there is always a gap—one that can only be filled through the kindness of people like you. Your support bridges this gap.
Looking ahead to 2025, I am filled with hope and excitement for what we will achieve together. Together we can touch even more lives, improve the daily experiences of our residents, and remind them that they are valued, cherished, and never alone.
Your generosity means the world to us, and to the seniors whose lives you are helping to enrich. If you have any questions about the foundation or would like to learn more about our work, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly at 403-254-6280 or via email at pfonseka@fatherlacombe.ca.
